New York, NY – June 14, 2002
OptionMetrics and Logical Information Machines, Inc. (LIM) today announced that the two companies have agreed to link IvyDB, OptionMetrics’s historical option price and implied volatility dataset, with LIM’s sophisticated time series database and analysis software. As a result, LIM users will be able to access OptionMetrics’s high-quality option data and be able to perform sophisticated analyses on relationships between option prices, implied volatilities, and underlying equity and index prices.
“We’re very excited about this partnership,” said David J. Hait, president of OptionMetrics. “For the first time, customers will be able to use LIM’s robust query language and analysis capabilities to perform the same kinds of quantitative research and back-testing of strategies for the options markets that have been commonplace in the equity markets for many years.”
“We have long awaited for the right supplier of equity options data to partner with,” said Tony Kolton, President and CEO of LIM.
“We only associate ourselves with data vendors that have the very highest caliber of data quality. This is our main concern whenever we form a relationship with any data vendor. We are convinced that Optionmetrics has the very best in equity option data quality, and it is a tribute to Dr. Hait’s painstaking cleaning of his data, which took years of hard work and experience.”
IvyDB is the first widely available, comprehensive source of high-quality historical price and implied volatility data for the US equity and index options markets. It contains accurate historical prices – dating back to January 1996 – of options and their associated underlying instruments, correctly calculated implied volatilities, and option sensitivities. Customers, who include broker/dealers, hedge funds, and proprietary trading firms, can use the product to back-test trading strategies, evaluate risk/return models, and perform sophisticated research on all aspects of options investment.
